VolunteeringVolunteers play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our school community. Throughout the year, we'll be seeking parent volunteers for various activities. This includes opportunities like being a "play dough mom/dad" and participating in our June field trip. We have an open-door policy, allowing parents to lend a hand in their child's class from October till June; simply inform your teacher in advance. Please be aware that all volunteers must have a current criminal record check on file to participate in classroom activities. Your support is invaluable, and we appreciate your willingness to contribute to our school's success!

SnacksWhen preparing your child's snack and water bottle for the day, please remember that Green Door is a NUT-FREE school, including tree nuts. We recommend nutritious snacks such as small muffins, crackers, or cut-up fruit. However, please avoid including the following prohibited foods in your snack preparations: nuts and seeds, nut oils, peanut butter, hard candies, caramels and toffee, chewing gum, popcorn, gumdrops, jelly beans, M&M candies, and snacks containing toothpicks or skewers. Please note that no food preparation can take place at Green Door. Additionally, many store-bought bakery items may contain traces of nuts or be produced in facilities that use nuts, so please read labels carefully to ensure compliance with our policy. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in keeping all our students safe and healthy.

Absence or SicknessFor the well-being of all children and staff, we kindly ask that if your child is unwell, please refrain from bringing them to school. It's important that a child remains symptom-free for a minimum of 24 hours before returning to school. This precaution helps prevent the spread of illness within our community. In the event that your child exhibits symptoms of a communicable disease or falls ill while at school, we will promptly contact you to arrange for their pickup. Your cooperation in promptly collecting your child is greatly appreciated. Additionally, if your child is absent for more than two consecutive days, please notify the teacher. This allows us to keep track of attendance and ensure the well-being of all our students. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in maintaining a healthy environment for everyone at Green Door Preschool.

Similarly, at our Midnapore location, we will evacuate the building and relocate to the Tim Horton’s at 40 Midlake Blvd SE. Rest assured, our teachers will promptly notify parents of the situation and provide further instructions as needed. Your child's safety is our utmost priority, and we have taken proactive measures to address emergency situations effectively.

Discipline PolicyAt Green Door, we prioritize creating a nurturing and positive learning environment for all children. Our approach to discipline is rooted in guidance and encouragement, with the aim of promoting self-control and conflict-resolution skills. Our main method of discipline is redirection, wherein teachers gently guide children toward safe and acceptable methods of play. Children are given the choice to adjust their play methods or explore alternative activities within the center. We believe in fostering open communication and encourage children to express their feelings and offer apologies when necessary. Through this approach, we empower children to develop valuable social and emotional skills that will serve them well in their future endeavours.

Clothing and ShoesTo maintain cleanliness and safety in our classroom and gym areas, please ensure your child wears clean indoor rubber-soled shoes that will be taken home each day. Throughout various activities involving glue, paint, markers, and play dough, we prioritize hands-on learning experiences. While we provide plastic aprons for painting activities, please be aware that they may not cover an entire outfit. Therefore, we kindly ask that you dress your child accordingly to accommodate potential messes. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable learning environment for all students.

HolidaysGreen Door Preschool will observe the same holiday schedule as the Calgary Public School system. Information regarding upcoming holidays will be prominently displayed in the hallway and included in the monthly calendar for your convenience. This ensures that families can plan accordingly and stay informed about any scheduled breaks or closures. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we appreciate your cooperation in adhering to our holiday schedule.

Drop Off and DismissalTo ensure a smooth start to each class, the teacher will open the classroom door prior to the beginning of the session. We kindly ask that you and your child wait in the hall until the door is opened. If someone other than yourself will be picking up your child at the end of the class, please inform the teacher in writing beforehand. Prompt pickup at the end of class is greatly appreciated. In the event of a delay, it is your responsibility to make alternate arrangements for your child's pickup. Please note that a late fee will be charged to all parents who are later than 5 minutes. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in maintaining the safety and efficiency of our pickup procedures.
